Thabo Mbeki Africa Day Public Lecture – 2025

The Brief.

A high-level regional celebration held in Tanzania from May 20–25, 2025, organized by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania, UNISA, the UONGOZI Institute, the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, the University of Dar es Salaam and the AngloGold Ashanti.

We were honoured to be entrusted by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation to lead the branding and public relations efforts, including media management for the entire week-long event. Our role extended into on-ground coordination and strategic communications, supporting the seamless execution of each activity.

The event brought together African leaders, youth, intellectuals, and policymakers to commemorate Africa Day through a series of impactful forums, lectures, and cultural exchanges.

1. The week began with a Youth Townhall lecture at Nkrumah Hall, University of Dar es Salaam, on May 21, 2025. Former South African President Thabo Mbeki engaged with students and young leaders on the role of youth in shaping Africa’s future and preserving its intellectual legacy.

2. A strategic Blue Economy Roundtable gathered regional and international experts to discuss sustainable development opportunities linked to Africa’s coastal and marine resources. This was powered by AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania.

3. A special trip to Morogoro was held in partnership with the government of the United Republic of Tanzania, for a day of reflection and renewal. Travelling via the SGR, President Thabo Mbeki and key delegates visited the Mazimbu gravesite to lay wreaths in honour of South African liberation heroes. He also engaged with students and leaders at Sokoine University of Agriculture and concluded the visit with a symbolic tree-planting ceremony.

4. The event series culminated in the 15th Thabo Mbeki Africa Day Lecture held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) on May 24, 2025. Under the theme “The State of the Continent,” the lecture featured President Mbeki and convened dignitaries, academics, diplomats, and civil society leaders from across Africa.

We are deeply grateful to the Thabo Mbeki Foundation and the UONGOZI Institute for trusting us with such a monumental responsibility. We are proud to have contributed to a celebration that embodies African excellence, legacy, and forward-thinking leadership.
